About Us

Maentwrog Masonry has been established for over 20 years and includes a professional team of highly experienced masons.

We specialise in projects requiring excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail. We are open to any designs, ideas and concepts you may have. Our design team will discuss every detail of your project such as material sourcing, costing and time management.

Details of our completed projects are in the sections and pages above.  Our walling ranges from small garden walls to grand driveway entrances and we will always attempt to blend the materials and style of our walling into their environment or the client's requirement.

We also have extensive experience in cladding different types of buildings. Again, our style and materials will always reflect the design, style and location of the property.  Many of our projects include logistic and technical problems, such as cladding a house on a cliff face overlooking the sea, where all materials were craned in! Through our experiences on demanding locations our team will endeavour to find a solution in overcoming challenging projects.

Our masonry projects also include barn conversions and listed buildings where its necessary to comply to heritage regulations and to be sympathetic to traditional and original building techniques.

Maentwrog Masonry and our masons have also been involved in many specialist projects.  These include an amphitheatre at Oriel Glyn y Weddw, cladding of the Millenium centre, the Darwin wall at Ogwen Valley visitor centre and the repair of the jetty on Tudwal's island.

The Legend of Twrog…

Almost a millennia and a half ago, it is said that from atop the hills surrounding Ffestiniog, Twrog the giant cast a stone which struck the earth of a small clearing near Afon Dwyryd. The stone rests there today by St Twrog's church. Some say it still bears the prints of this colossus, engrained into its face. The legend tells that if one is to rub the stone, they are fated to return to the village of Maentwrog once again. Maentwrog translates to "Twrog's Stone", cementing his legacy within the village. As stonemasons, we're proud to share the same passion Twrog had for throwing large stones around, and assure to maintain the reputation of his legacy through our work.
