Generations of masons have worked these buildings before us: to create, maintain, and adapt before our eyes. Behind every wall, house, or feature is a process, as important as the buildings that stand to this day.
Our Process…
-

Quarrying
Our work begins in many of the quarries local to North Wales, such as Llechwedd, Nanhorron, Cefn Griannog and Aber Quarry. Here, our masons collect and split our materials by hand for our projects, often using plug and feathers, a traditional stone splitting technique which dates back thousands of years to ancient Rome and Egypt.

Building
Our masons have been building for decades, honing their craft across their years of experience. To Maentwrog Masonry, both structural and aesthetic integrity are paramount in our builds, with our lifetimes of practise and passion bleeding into each and every project. Our masons are also fully qualified, with Maentwrog Masonry proudly being members of the Federation of Master Builders. With our years of experience, qualifications, and ardour, we guarantee a unique attention to detail with each and every project we are pleased to be involved with.

Lime Pointing/Washing
For heritage sites and listed buildings, we use traditional lime pointing and washing methods. Lime mortar also dates back thousands of years, and was also used in the construction of the Egyptian pyramids. We use lime mortar and hot lime to repoint historic buildings to maintain the old methods used in their original construction, and is favoured instead of cement due to its breathability. Lime washing is a painting method we use with this material to add further protection to older buildings from the elements.
